European car servicing backed by four decades of hands-on knowledge
European cars have changed enormously over the past 40 years. What started as largely mechanical work now involves electronics, diagnostic scanning, coding and increasingly complex vehicle systems.
European Car Specialists has worked through that entire transition.
Jan combines decades of hands-on European mechanical knowledge with modern diagnostic capability, while Robert brings strong computer-based diagnostic skills to the workshop. Together, they work on classic, older and late-model BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, along with other European makes.
That depth of experience means servicing and repairs are based on the individual vehicle rather than a standard package or a fault code taken at face value.
European Car Specialists provides European car servicing in Pukekohe, including scheduled maintenance, diagnostics and mechanical repairs for classic through to late-model vehicles.

Transparent European car servicing with no unnecessary add-ons
Your car’s age, engine, mileage, condition and servicing history determine what is due. We do not use generic silver, gold or platinum packages because two vehicles of the same make can have very different requirements.
Manufacturer schedules and technical data are checked before recommendations are made. Correct Fuchs and Penrite oils and fluids are selected to suit the individual vehicle rather than using a generic alternative.
Every vehicle is also diagnostically scanned as part of servicing. Regular scanning gives us a much clearer picture of faults developing between services and can identify problems before they become larger repairs.
Preventative maintenance is a major part of our approach. If replacing one worn component while leaving related items would create a high risk of another failure soon afterwards, we will explain what should reasonably be addressed together.
Fault diagnosis that goes beyond reading a scan code
A diagnostic scanner tells you where the vehicle has detected a problem. It does not necessarily tell you which component has caused it.
We start by listening to what you have noticed. This is particularly valuable with intermittent faults, where the vehicle may behave perfectly once it reaches the workshop.
Diagnostic information is then interpreted alongside mechanical experience and further testing where required. That helps us identify the cause rather than simply replacing the component named by a fault code.
Older European vehicles are not excluded from that process. We have retained legacy diagnostic equipment for models from the 1990s and 2000s, including equipment capable of communicating with vehicles such as a 1992 BMW 850 V12.
For newer vehicles, modern scanners and established coding and technical networks give us access to the specialist support required as vehicle systems continue to evolve.
European expertise from classic to late-model vehicles
BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen are at the centre of our European work, with Italian, Swedish and French vehicles also regularly coming through the workshop.
Jan has worked on and seen the same marques develop from predominantly mechanical cars into the electronically controlled vehicles on the road today.
That continuity is important. Older cars often require diagnostic equipment, mechanical knowledge and specialist tools that newer workshops may no longer have, while current models require up-to-date scanning, coding and electronic fault finding.
We have specialist BMW and Mercedes-Benz timing equipment alongside our diagnostic tools, and established technical contacts are brought in when a job requires capability outside our workshop.
European hybrids and EVs can also be serviced and scanned, with specialist high-voltage work coordinated externally where necessary.
Mechanical repairs focused on fixing the actual problem
European vehicle repairs can become unnecessarily expensive when parts are replaced before the underlying fault has been properly identified.
Our approach is to establish what has actually failed and repair the appropriate component wherever practical. A transmission problem, for example, may be caused by an individual electronic or hydraulic component rather than requiring the complete gearbox to be replaced.
The same principle applies across cooling systems, timing components, suspension, steering, engine repairs and brake repairs. The aim is to complete the work properly rather than patch one part of a connected problem.
Parts are sourced through long-standing suppliers in New Zealand and overseas. Depending on the application, we use genuine factory, OEM or suitable quality aftermarket parts with traceable technical and warranty support.
Nothing additional is carried out without discussing the work with you. Where a fault first needs investigation before it can be accurately priced, we will explain that before proceeding.
Parts and labour warranties apply according to the repair and components involved.
Frequently asked questions for European Car Servicing & Repairs
We prefer to source the parts used in our repairs. This allows us to confirm that the component is correct for your vehicle and gives us traceable supplier and warranty support if there is a problem later. Customer-supplied parts can create compatibility, quality and warranty issues that we cannot control.
Yes. Diagnostic scanning forms part of our servicing process. Regular scans help us identify faults that have appeared since the previous service and can highlight developing problems before they become more serious. Scan information is assessed alongside the vehicle’s condition and your own observations rather than being treated as a diagnosis by itself.
Yes. This is one of our particular strengths. We have retained diagnostic equipment and specialist tools for older European cars while also using modern scanners and technical networks for current vehicles. Our experience covers classic, older and late-model BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and other European makes.
You get dealership-grade diagnostic expertise and factory-spec servicing without the high dealer prices, plus direct communication with the mechanic working on your car.
Yes. Our workshop is equipped to service European SUVs, light commercial delivery vans, trade vehicles, and campervans like Mercedes Sprinters and Fiat Ducatos.
Yes, we offer loaner vehicles to keep you moving. Just request a courtesy car when booking your service.
